Trying to change power management settings via Admin user

This computer's monitor is set to turn off after 20 min in the Power settings. It gives an "Access denied" message when I try to change it logged in as the current user. So, I logged out and logged in as admin, changed the setting to "Never", and then logged back in as the user, and the setting is still set to turn off the monitor after 20 min.

    OS: Win2k SP2

    Ideas?

    Been there

I go through this every time I roll out a new PC in the office where I work. You need to temporarily give the user admin rights in order to change that setting. Each user has their own power settings in their personal profile. Changing them in one profile will not affect the other.
After the changes have been made, you can demote the user again.

You could try this registry modification: (It does not say if it will work in W2K or XP only)

See this link for all the details:

Note: On Windows 2000 you must use regedit32 or you will not be able
to change the permissions on registry keys
