Best LCD TV
Hey guys I have read reviews on TV's, looking to get a nice LCD hopefully kinda big. Like 40+ inches. I have looked at samsung and they seem to give the best picture. But I decided to turn to the experts lol. And if the samsung are the bets that would explain the 400+ dollar jump on every TV. I have also heard the Sharp LCD TV is good but I was wondering fi you guys have any thoughts or personal experince with them. Thanks for and advice in advance.

That's an easy one to answer, the BEST TV is the one marked "on sale"!
Seriously though, I have 3 Samsing TV's (never a problem with any) and 3 Samsung monitors. The monitors are top rated especially for editing photo's.

Toshiba and Sharp look tight. Prices range wildly. 1080p will cost you dearly, but is recommended for Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Stark Raving MOD
You gotta look at the specs of each model individually, regardless of brand. 720p, 1080i or 1080p make huge price differences.

Mod w/ an attitude
Contrast ratio also plays a big part in the price. The higher the contrast, open the wallet a lot farther.

Samsung 42 inch looks great in my home

You can look at NEC and SONY as well ... I have a Sony 50 inch Plasma
that now you can only get in the Sony Pro line .. it is an excellent set, but
runs around $4000 .. You want to go into like a Best Buy and compare the
makes side by side watching the same program in the same lighting
environment. See which one delivers the best looking Picture, Sharpness
and Color .... Good to test with are sports, like Golf, Baseball, Football or
car racing ... this will tell if the picture will look Sharp on a fast action scene.
And as mentioned, the more resolutions the set has the more it will cost.
However, if you intend to add a High Def Blu Ray style DVD Player, you need
the best resolution to get the best results from the dvd ... You should be able
to get a good one for under $4000 at most ... And of course, you need a good
surround sound speaker and amplifier system .. Marantz amps are top notch.

Well, what about plasma. They have a half life of about 5 years and then you have the burned in image. Also whats the difference between 1080i and 1080p. After I decide which one I'm going to buy I'll price match with Best Buy and then buy at circuit city because I work there and discounts are awesome heh. So I'm guessing I should go with samsung or sony? Or is sharp another company I should look at. Also I heard that spmething happens to some of the TV called banding I think? What is that? Thanks for all the feedback so far.

This explains the differences between 1080I and 1080P

As to image burn in, that would be an issue if you use video games or
you leave a paused image on the screen for extended amount of time.
For most users, with just normal use and precautions, that will not be an issue.

Both plasma and LCD have about a 60,000 hour life span. One does not burn in more than another.
Plasma uses more power and generates more heat.
Plasma has better deep blacks.
1080 plasma will require your name signed in blood and your firstborn son.
Plasma sets are made with glass and weigh a ton.
LCD is lighter in weight and uses less juice. 1080 will only require your signature in blood. You can keep the brat.
Sharp Aquos and Toshiba Regza are the current cream of the crop and will cost you. Samsung is good quality at a reasonable price. Vizio is dirt cheap and they don't provide any service in reality (Samsung is weak in support too). Sony is not the best, but has good support at a relatively high price. Philips walks the line between quality and support and costs about the same as Samsung.
Whatever you buy, make sure that you like the remote. I can't stress this enough.

So I should base my decision on the remote! heh Anyways whats is everyone's favorite or what company makes the best in your opinion. I'm looking to buy one real soon (for Halo 3) and I want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck. And it sounds like the 1080p will give me less jagged edges which is really nice. I can't stand anything being pixelated! My price range is about 1600-1800. Any suggestions will be more than helpful.

While what Bill says has some truth to it, the facts are IMHO
1): Plasam delivers the very best picture .. with lcd running a close second
2): They do run at a higher voltage for the display, but electricty cost wise
you will not notice the difference in cost
3): Yes, they are glass and a tad heavy. However, when you mount your
wall bracket, just use lag screws into the Wall Studs .. it will be fine that way
4): As to cost, you can get it for under $3000

Has anyone considered Projectors instead of LCD or Plasma?
IMO the quality is better, and you can size it as big as your wall allows.
price range is comparable if not cheaper than LCD
there are both wide screen and 4:3 as you prefer
and they are easier to repair than LCD if your bulb ever goes out.
i7-3970X, Corsair H80, 32GB G.SKILL, ASUS RAMPAGE4 Formula, VG278H(3x27")+3D Vision2, EVGA GTX 690(x2), OCZ ZX1250W, 256GB Vertex4(x2), Seagate 3TB(x5), Antec LanBoyAir, Logitech G510, G600, Z560THX, T.Flight Hotas, PZ35, Sennheiser PC163D, TrackIR5

Projectors have their Pros and Cons
Pro: Works best in a dimly lit room ... excessive light will wash it out
Pro: Cost is reasonable
Con: They take up a lot of room and need either a large cabinet or be
hung from the ceiling .. They also require a set amount of distance from
the unit to the screen, if hung from the ceiling.
Con: Projector sets use 3 crt tubes ... one for RED, one for BLUE, one for GREEN
The image is reflected thru a mirror projected on screen if the unit is all one unit.
If it hung from the ceiling a Lens combines the 3 colors the same way a normal
color set would. Because they use crt tubes, the color adjustments, such as Purity
and Convergence can and do go out of adjustment with time .... Just like a old style
color set ... Their power use is also as high as a normal color tv
As to repairs, if it goes out, you either bring a tech in or send the unit out. Either way
very expensive. However the same applies to most any large screen tv including
Plasma or LCD ... The better the brand, like SONY, NEC, PANASONIC, SHARP do
not fail all that often. I have many SONY TV's in my home and none of them have
ever needed any repairs.
