    Performance Drop After Overclock

The pics pretty much explain it:

    No OC:

    OC:

    Specs:
    Abit AG8-V
    P4 3.4ghz (Prescott)
    2 gigs of pc3200
    Nvidia 7900GT
    Creative X-fi Gaming

I don't know what CPU cooler you have, but it's possible that you've pushed the processor too far and it's throttling. Try a smaller overclock (like 50mhz) and see if you get the same results.

Yeah I was starting to think that it's being automatically throttled down. I have the stock lga775 cooler.

Heres the results of a small oc:

That heatsink is not designed for overclocking. Prescotts are notoriously hot even before you overclock them.

Bad idea overclocking on stock cooling, especially on prescotts. If you're going to overclock that processor, you might want to get a better CPU cooler.

If I got a better cooler would it fix my problem? Or could it be the voltage or something else causing it?

Mileage will vary from chip to chip, but enhanced cooling would probably help.

I don't mess with voltages until I max out a chip on stock voltage.

Voltage would not be a cause of what's happening. Voltage affects stability, but it has no effect on performance. However, if your voltage is too low for a sustained overclock, the computer usually locks up or restarts on a regular basis. If it's too high, the chip usually runs hot and it can shorten the life of a processor dramatically if it's set too high.

Is there any way I can see if my processor is being throttled down?
