    Belarc says I have 1G RAM - but I don't !

Both the Belarc Advisor and the Crucial RAM Scan state Slot 'A0' has 1024 MB &
Slot 'A1' is Empty. This is on a PC Chips M870 MB. But Belarc also states 512 Megabytes Installed Memory, which is what I DO have : 1 stick of 512M.

Why does Belarc and Crucial think I have 1024MB ? Should I care ?

That "issue" was on many boards, RAM misdetection due to a change in the memory controller that first appeared in the Sempron processors.

Half as much RAM as you actually have is the typical symptom ... so if you have a newer kind of processor in there, paired with a really old BIOS that predates the first appearance of this processor model, then give it a BIOS update.

As rmanet and Peter M have both deduced, it is a Sempron CPU. I updated the BIOS and the Memory Display now shows the correct values.

    Thanks !

Oddly enough, I had downloaded the updated BIOS back in October, and thought I used it then. Clearly I did not.
