WinXP - Basic vs Dynamic Storage??

Which is the prefered - Basic or Dynamic ???

This will be for a fresh installation where C drive will be a 20GB (is that big enough for XP???) partition for the OS and the balance (can not decide whether to partition the rest yet!) of a 160GB drive for apps etc.

On that aspect, is the partitioning etc using XP Disk Manager reliable and trustworthy?

I intend to have an 80GB drive for use as the Page file location and also for the the scratch file area for the likes of Photoshop.

Two other drives will be purely for data and are currently in use in my Dual Boot Win98se / Win2K Pro system formated as FAT32

You will only be using basic disks as you describe it.

Dynamic disks is used when you want to combine several drives into one drive letter in the my computer window.

A 20GB partition for XP should be big enough, depending on how many apps you install. You can always resize it using Partition Magic later.

stick with basic disks. backup programs may have problems with dynamic discs.
