Onboard audio not working in Asrock 939Dual-SATA2
Hi,
I got an Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 the other day. I installed WinXP, everything fine, except that i haven't been able to get the onboard audio to work. It simply does not sound. This morning a did a clean reinstall of windows, and the same.
My hardware:
AMD 939 3700+ brisbane
1024mb ram (1 512 module + 2 256 modules)
ati radeon 1600pro 512mb
HD Seagate 320MB sata2
460w enermax psu
latest bios (2.30)
What i did:
- installed xp, then sp2
- installed unified drivers 2.20 downloaded from uli's website (ftp://www.uli.com.tw/driver/Integrated220.rar) (selected agp, lan, and audio). It must be noted that after this installation and subsequent rebooting, the onboard audio wan't recognised in windows
- installed drivers downloaded from asrock web (AMD cool n quiet driver, serial ata driver, serial ata 2 driver)
- Then I tried unninstalling uli's audio drivers, and installing realtek driver available at asrocks web. After rebooting, audio was recognised in windows, however nothing sounds, it is completely mute.
Jumpers for front and rear audio are both there, as manual states that they must be for both options to be available (i use rear audio)
Can anyone help me please, or tell me where I should ask?
Thank you very much.

Welcome to SysOpt someBoy!
Look in Device manager and see if the sound card appears to be installed properly. If so, check the audio properties to make sure the sound is not muted. Also, be sure you have the speakers plugged into the correct audio port (usually green).

Yes, Win detects it as correctly installed when i use asrocks audio drivers. I check audio props and no sound is muted, and i made sure speakers worked correctly (i installed a very old soundblaster live soundcard, and i had sound, but it was a little bit crappy, so i want onboard audio to work)
Thanks for the tips

Is onboard sound enabled in the BIOS? Might be defect MB? It happens sometimes.
-
Yeah, it's enabled in BIOS.
Might be defective... I just hoped it was simply a driver problem.

You probably knocked a jumper off of the front panel audio header.
-
Both jumpers (front and rear audio) are there.

Are all of the Windows volume controls enabled and turned up?
Are you using the bottom center audio port?
Have you checked your audio configuration in the drivers to whatever speaker layout you have?
-
Yep, al volume controls enabled.
Yep, bottom center port (green one)
Well, config in realtek's sound manager is set to speakers. I tried other configs, but no success. Tried also plugging headphones, but still no sound

By the way, i can't record sound either, it's mute too.
