    Laptop tempertures

I've been reading on hardware temperatures and stuff and have a few questions.

My video chipset is rated to a maximum operating temperature of 50 deg C and so is my HDD...Neither of them run that cool durring normal operating times. Normal temperatures for the video are 61 idle and 66 under full load. HDD is 60 normal and 67 when systemwide is under full load...

The computer runs fine I've never had any trouble with freezing or anything. I should probably just keep saying to myself if it ain't broken don't fix it but you know how computer people can be. It just seems odd that the parts always run hotter than they are rated at.

It's the laptop in the sig:

    Dell M50
    Pentium 4-M 2.6GHz(upgraded from 2.2)
    1GB DDR PC 2700
    100GB Hitachi 7K100 7200rpm HDD
    64MB Go Gl 700 4xAGP

It's been working like this for about 2 years now but i'm not sure about before that because i couldn't find a utility before that.

Have you used a can of air to clean blow any dirt out?

I've brushed everything and blown everything out. Even had new fans put in. I don't particularly like the way the video is cooled it looks like a thick foam thermal pad. I've been thinking about putting a solid peice of copper or aluminum there but it uses the keyboard with a heatpipe as a heatsink and wouldn't want to have the keyboard placing direct pressure on the gpu when typing even tho i don't think that it really ever moves. I've thought about customizing the hdd bracket to make it actually breathe. When the drive is installed it ends up being almost totally enclosed.

If it runs, then don't worry about it.

Ya definitely. Laptops tend to run hot no matter what man, it's all good. I have an acer ferrari notebook and it will literally burn your lap. As for the temperatures, I think that GPU's can handle temperatures a lot higher than 60 degrees. I think taht for a processor I used to have, it would only shut itself down at 120 degrees.

Hope it helps man, take it easy.

P.S. Maybe you could get a notebook cooling pad/dock. It would make your laptop run a bit cooler when it's stationary.

    Cheers! Merry christmas!
