Memory comparison question
I'm shopping for memory and have come across two that appear to have the same/similar specs but have drastically different prices, almost 2 to 1.
I'm looking at 512mb PC100 SDRAM chips at the same store. One (K-byte) is $99 and the other (Corsair) is $155.
What justifies the price difference if all the other specs listed appear to be the same?

Corsair has a warranty and I doubt the other one does.
Is either one listed as being compatible with your mobo?
If not, then neither one is a deal cause they may or may not work for you.

The motherboard does not mention any memory vendor specifics, just PC100 SDRAM and both memory chips qualify.
P.S. $99 should be $89...typo...my bad

Check the mobo manufacturers' website. They almost always list the RAM part numbers that they tested on the system.
What brand and model number mobo is it?
-
Also huge price difference between lo density and hi density ram..and in most cases unless hi density is specifically noted, NOT COMPATIBLE.

Mobo is:

I can't find any references to high or low density. Do you mean DIMM vs SIMM?

Stark Raving MOD
that board should take high density dimms. DIMM and SIMM are not related to density.
most manufacturers will incorrectly label high density chips as "PC133 only"

Excellent. So I can got with either PC100 or PC133.
I've been doing some research into memory density and it is not an easy concept to grasp quickly. I think I need to learn a little more about depth and rank before I will completely understand.
The one thing I do not see is any reference in the description of the memory modules being offered for sale that identifies them as high or low density.
They say you should learn something new every day, and today I am going to learn about memory density.
Thanks for your help.
