    Asus P4P800-E Deluxe - O/C error when not O/Cing?

Ok, this has happened twice now in about as many months.

I power up the machine, it beeps at me and gives me an error message,

    "Overclocking failed.

    F1 to enter SETUP
F2 to load defaults and continue."

Now, thing is, I'm not overclocking...just running the processor at normal speed (P4 3Ghz)

Could this be something as simple as a dead CMOS battery?

Maybe that or just a bad setting in the BIOS.

Try resetting the BIOS to factory defaults.

Did that...hit F2 last time it happened, yet here it is again. Trick is why it happened in the first place, and what made it happen a second time.

I just have a straight surge strip, not a UPS. Could it be a power fluctuation that happened overnight, even though the machine was off?

Nope. If the PC is turned off then the power supply acts as a sure protector.

    Change the battery.
