    New comp, odd SATA problem??

HI, I just built my PC (specs are my signature at bottom). Everything is running fine except that I have a 250GB SATA2 HD installed in my ECS nforce 570 slit-A mobo. This mobo supports SATA2. Only thing is when bios boots I can see when the screen flashes it says ide channel 2 then i believe it says lta or lpt ata then 250GB. After installing all my motherboard drivers including ide drivers they had on the cd, when i goto device manage it says my HD is location 0 on Primary ata channel? why is this. Also after installing all the drivers I have a safely remove hardware icon on my taskbar by the clock, and when i click it my hard drive is the device. Anyhelp is greatly appreciated. the hard drive is installed correctly and is plugged into the 1st sata2 plug on the motherboard.

Darn - go into BIOS setup and Standard CMOS Setup and look there.

You appear to only have one hard drive and the PC is working, right?

If you read your manual, you may find that you can select SATA mode or IDE mode for the SATA drive. Default is IDE mode, which would explain this.

Yah I only have one hard drive. If i go look where you told me what do I do because my manual is lame, it barely has anything. Would IDE mode actually make it slower, or how do i switch it to sataII mode because that is what I have.

BTW-my friend has a different setup than me and he has the same problem. Even the safely remove hardware tab.

Theres a reg tweak to remove the SRH icon from the tray when SATA drives are detected ... just be sure to backup 1st .

Thanks for the link. Also does anybody know what I should change in bios to make it not say that LBA ATA 166 250gb? Because it seems like it is running in an ide ata mode right? And with that safely remove hardware icon, im guessing that is normal??

I went over the manual and I didn't see a way to change the mode for the SATA controller. I wouldn't worry about it. A BIOS update may change things in the future, but it's probably running at full speed now. After all, it *is* an nVidia controller. The BIOS readout is probably not true.

Try removing the jumper on the drive to switch to SATA 3.0:

SATA II means nothing. It's that same as plain SATA. The "big dog" is SATA 3GB/s (stupid moniker if you ask me. "SATA 3" would have been better).

thanks bpb. Yah i already had the jumper removed, so im also guessing hopefully a bios update will clear that up. Also with that safely remove hardware icon on desktop that shouldnt pose any problems if i leave it alone there right?

It's not a problem. SATA hard drives are hot-pluggable, so it *should* be there.
