My experiences with eMachines has been poor... and their technical support is less then stellar. I've witnessed several other people with the same experience. I personally wouldn't buy one of their systems...

I have nothing against boxed systems tho. One of my machines happens to be a Sempron-based Compaq. It's the first boxed system i've personally owned, but I was sold after opening the in-store display model. The board is by ASUS (ATI chipset) and all of the other components are major-brand. It was also upgradable: S393 CPU up to X2, dual channel memory, open PCI-Express, free SATA, free IDE, onboard FireWire, etc. I did replace the PSU tho...

If you're going to go with a boxed system, I would just buy whatever is on the shelf. If it's at all possible, find out what components are inside. You could always have a computer shop build a system for you... that you know exactly what's inside.
