    WD SATA 3 GB/s HDD not showing up in my computer..

    Received my new har drive today and it show up in my bios and deviece manger but not in my computer.. What could be causing this?

    I'm using Window XP home edition with SP2

    did you partition and format it yet? you have to go into disk managment.

    start-run-diskmgmt.msc or right click on my computer - manage

    Sorry for posting in the wrong place.. Half asleep

    I ran disk Management and it's not showing up. Only my primary drive is.

    but it is showing up in the bios and device manager?

    you should see your hard drives and cdrom drives in disk management. did you scroll all the way down? new drives are sometimes put at the bottom of the list.

    take a screenshot and post it

    It did't show up at first. I decided to check out ASrock website and found drivers for SATA2. "JMicron SATA2 driver Ver: 207" and installed it.

    Now I see the hard drive in the Disk Management and got it running.

    Thanks for telling me about Disk Management. I never knew about it.

    I figured you had installed your controller drivers. oh well.

    Disk Management has been around since win2k. Disk Administrator was in WinNT

    It's not possible to partion an system drive with that program right? I was trying to partion my main drive but could't but manged to do it with secondary drive.

    you would have had to partition it during setup, or use a program like partition magic or ranish
