cd drive audio cable
have now had the pleasure of working with 3 different emachines which blew the psu and taking the mb with it.
now i have noticed that none of them use a audio cable from the cd/dvd drives to the mb. so how are they doing this?
also sorry, keyboard just lost caps! time to go dig out another one.

the audio data goes over the ide cable now. audio cables haven't been used for along time.

ok, that's how much i've paid attention.
then why was it that when i reset up my sons machine we were not getting any audio until i installed a cable?

what OS are you running? win9x had an analog cd player. use WMP instead and it should work fine.
You'll rarely see those cables in a win2k or xp system.

mostly w2k and 1 xp that is running w/o the cable. must have been that my machine was dual boot, win98 and 2k.
but now i'm curious and will have to remove the cable now that i no long have 98 on mine.
thanks!

I think the only time I've seen the cable come in handy anymore is for the audio jack on the player itself , if it has one .
