help with new pc
Hi, I am ready to build my new pc. I want it to be moderately priced maxing at about 1000-1100 USD. I am using the Core2Duo e6400 as my processor(LGA775). I want to go back to nvidia video cards again. What chipset should I use for the motherboard the nforce x16 sli or nforce 570. Right now these are in my pricerange while the nforce 590 lga775 is a little too expensive. I see the nforce x16 sli has dual x16 pci express and supports ddr2 800 while the 570 has 2 x8 pci express slots and only supports up to ddr2 667. Thanks

You won't beable to build an SLi machine based an a Conroe for that price.
The SLI boards are all over $250+ right now.
You would be better off forgetting SLI as it is a complete waste of money gaming wise and go with a nice 965 Express board.

I meant I wanted a chipset that supports sli rather than crossfire. I am no going to get sli now but if I want to i can do it in the future

The motherboard will still put you out of your price range at current prices.

its a possibility...im just building a system though no monitor or nothing and im gonna settle with a geforce 6600 series. But if i was to push my resources a little which motherboard do you think would be better of those two. Thanks

Your going to put a GF 6600 series card in a Conroe system?
Why would you bottleneck it like that?

It's no more of a bottleneck than standard onboard video. It's all he can afford, most likely.

Yeah you may be right.....
Still that system would deserve a better card than that.

what parts do you already have right this moment? If you have none at this moment, you might consider the AMD path, but if you already have the processor, listen to BP.

He really wants a Core 2 Duo and who can blame him?
