PSU?
I'm looking at power supply units for a case I bought w/ no PSU. What should I look for in them and should I stick with one made by the case manufacturer or can I go with a different one? And if my mobo has PCI-e does that make a difference? I'm looking to stay between 400-500 watts.
Any help and input would be great.
Thx

Thx for the info. Would putting a higher watt psu, help in the long run?

Yes, a high-quality and high-powered PSU will mean that not only is it compliant with the technology just out like 64-bit OS and processing, SLI or Slingshot, but it means that the PSU will not be marginalised or overstressed now or in future.
An overstressed PSU will result in intractable and intermittent hardware and software problems that will not be obvious.
By purchasing the three below you save yourself upgrade headaches from a PSU and computer component perspective.
Antec have just come out with a 24-pin (20-pin + 4-pin (attachment)) PSU.
Normally motherboards that require a 24-pin PSU connector will not work well with 20 to 24-pin converters. With the Enermax and the Antec using the 20+4-pin approach you are able to have a native PSU motherboard connector.

If I were in the market for a new PSU it would be one of these three. But the Antec are new out the door.

Absolutely. It gives you room to grow and insures that you are going to see stable power.
I have the Enermax that "G" recommended in my system (see my sig line) and have no problems with it.
If you are going SLI it has 2 dedicated lines for that purpose.
Only question might be what kind of case is it going in? If it is an ATX case and was aftermarket and not a Dell, Compac, etc than it should fit nicely.

You don't need more than 500W unless you are using two video cards in SLi. Save your pennies:

The trend in CPUs is higher efficiency and lower power requirements. If you have or plan SLI, by all means get 600W+. If not, get that one. It's a winner and it's quiet.

Thanks everyone for the info! The case I got is a cooler master and I don't or plan on using two video cards in SLI.
At least I now know that 500w is sufficient! Cool

Even 500w is probably overkill (you never posted your system specs), but that FSP that BpB linked to will handle everything but the most demanding rigs just fine, and for a reasonable price too.

I got the Fortron and installed on my new Coolermaster case and installed all my components. It works fine and it's quiet! Big improvement from my old case that had a 350watt psu!
Thanks again!
