    Dell Dimension E310, something cooked

I was messing w/ my sisters NEW Dell Dimension E310. I was trying to hook up an IDE hard drive (disconnected serial ata). I plugged it into the tiny round ide cable (in series) that comes factory installed on cd rom. I'm guessing it couldnt handle the current. Something burnt & it wouldnt post - hard ware error, contact vendor error. I crapped my paints! After 1/ hr of disconnecting ea. individual component I hooked up a plain 80 ide cable & it worked again. So if I wanted to hook up a regular ide cable in place of the serial HDD, will I be able to?

i'm not following you. what round ide cable?

the new dells only have 1 IDE port, so you would have to put the hd right under the cdrom if anything. the bottom bays are dedicated for SATA drives.
