Will new P4 actually speed up system?

I want to speed up the overall performance of my system with minimal cost and I am thinking that possibly upgrading the CPU will help. My system is currently a Pr 2.4 533 FSB with 1 GB of DDR333 or 400 on an ASUS P4P800 mobo. Windows XP. Radeon 9800 Pro and 2 HDD's, both IDE's. Can I upgrade to a P4 3.0E and will I notice?

That really depends on what you're doing. The 3.0E is significanly more powerfull than what you have now. Not only is it 600MHz faster but it also has a wider FSB as well as hyperthreading. You will however want to have DDR400 ram to take advantage of the added power. P4's thrive on bandwidth. If all you're doing is surfing the web and using word, then no, you will not see any difference. If however you do any CPU intensive tasks or do a lot of multitasking, then you will see a benifit from it.
