Laptop restarting at XP password prompt

    Hi all,

Plugged my laptop in this morning and when it got to the XP user password screen as per usual, something unusual occurred.

The screen went black and all I could see was the mouse cursor in white, this lasted for about 4 seconds before the laptop rebooted. Now every time I start the computer this keeps happening.

I have no idea how this could have happened over night as I have not installed anything or changed any system files for at least 3 months.

I am certain that it is not heating related as the back of the laptop is very cool at all times (it normally gets a little hot during regular use).

I have turned the laptop on and left it in the bios for over 1 hour so know that the laptop is not switching it self off after a set time.

The laptop is a SONY PCG 971M running XP.

If anyone has ever experience a similar problem or can help in any way, I would be much appreciative.

    Thanks

    G.

Your OS or registry is corrupt.

Do a repair install from the CD.
