    Replacement Motherboard

Hey guys, I need to track down a replacement motherboard for a HP Pavilion 750N.

I looked on HP's site, but couldn't find anything.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

Why not call them? It's toll-free.

normally, you would go to partsurfer

    http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

however, that model was made during the "Trigem" era where you had to send a whole computer replacement. You can try getting the MB number from a third party vendor like preowned.com

Heck - drop in an older Socket 478 mATX motherboard and be done with it.

Will that work? I wasn't sure if any of the HP connectors or the case would cause me an issue. If a different MB will work, then that is what I will definitely do.

the problem would be that the recovery cds wouldn't work anymore. HP has a bios "Tattoo" that allows the recovery to run.

Yeah - you would have to reinstall Windows from another CD. You would likely lose the front USB ports because the conection is usually proprietary. You may have to rewire the front panel ports too, but it can be done.

Well, the recovery CD's aren't that big of a deal, since they don't have them anyway. I can just us an OEM cd and use their install key to reload the OS.

Also, the front panel ports shouldn't be that hard to wire. I mean, we are talking abut what, 6 wires.

And the USB doesn't get used at all, so they don't care about that.

Thanks for the advice guys !
