    98SE into safe mode

    Rookie question,
    I want to do a defrag & scan on my system.
    Can't seem to get into safe mode upon start-up.
    I hit F5, and F9 while rebooting.
    What am I doing wrong here ?

    Any help appeciated.

    Try F8.
    F5 should go to Safe Mode Command Prompt Only.
    I'm not familiar with what, if anything, F9 does.

    Hold down the Ctrl button during Startup until you see the boot menu.
