How do I shut off background programs?

Not the cntl-alt-delete, rather the cmd you enter into the run line to shut off programs, so they dont load on reset?

Most windows: click on start/run type: msconfig There should be a startup tab.
uncheck the apps you recognize as programs. There are others you can uncheck but I'm not sure which ones. If you're not sure...leave it alone. You can get back to it in safe mode if you do happen to do what I did. Ooops.

It's easier to use and has other benefits.
