    Decisions, decisions, decisions...

    Help me make them, guys

A friend could get me from ebay a pair of oem xeon 3.0 irwindale for 450usd.
With that price i could also get athlon x2 3800/mobo

which build (which one is better) should I go with if I'd be doing video editing, dvd encoding and web surfing simultaneously?

    thanks

I would get the X2. the dual xeon board would be expensive, plus you'd probably have to run Reg ECC ram on it also.

I hear ya. The x2 appears to be more flexible in setup.

Do you know if x2 3800 runs hotter than athlon xp2400? I'm extremely concerned about heat.

Much better. Multitasking is something else with the X2, it'll kick the rear of the 2400. As to speed, i have my X2 running now at 2.5 gig on air, at stock voltage. Stock air I was at 2.4 gig, no voltage change, nada. The thing oc's like a dream and runs very cool even under load.
last time I checked, running BOINC 24/7 on both cores, my thermal monitor had hit a high of 41c with 31c case, average about 38c. Idel temps in the low 30's. Have the Thermaltake Big Typhoon now http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/4...n/cl-p0114.htm
    Thing is absoultely the best.
