Geforce 6800GS comes in AGP flavour
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27760
NVIDIA IS racing against time to introduce its new AGP cards. The Santa Clara based company is planning to enrich its AGP offering and to introduce Geforce 6800GS AGP cards. This card will solve its AGP shortage problem, or at least alleviate it a bit.
Nvidia is hoping to ship the cards in next two to three weeks, it's tight but with some luck Nvidia might hit the stores before its too late for the Yule madness shopping. We reported about Nvidia's lack of 6800 standard chip for AGP here but learned that it will replace it with new, old cards.
Unlike Geforce 6800 AGP, the new Geforce 6800GS AGP will be based on good old NV40 chips. This means Nvidia is reaching for IBM production facilities one more time and it sounds to me that it can get more NV40 from IBM that it could get NV41s from TSMC.
We don’t know the final clock speed of this product but we are suspecting 425MHz core and 1000MHz memory. We will let you know as soon as we nail some hard numbers.
ATI still looks better in the AGP area as it doesn’t have any major shortages. At the same time, it's getting very hard to find many 6600GT AGP cards around. The new 6800GS AGP will fill the gap and will get Nvidia in the AGP game as soon as it ships it.
Partners are waiting for the chips as they all realise that they can sell it. Don’t be fooled by PCIe glamour as AGP is here to stay for at least a few more years. µ

Good Find
I will be getting one last AGP card, and this may be the one for me.

At stock speeds, it should beat a 6800GT. I think it was listed at around $200. that's definitely a bargain compared to the $400 I paid for my 6800GT.

Or the AGP coffee grinder I bought, the ATI X850XT. Great performance, high price, NOISY!!

Mid--you know they will get more for the AGP flavor, they always do.
Mobo--I had an x850Pro in my system for a test. It seemed like a real good card, and noise was not as issue for this one unit. Sounds like you need to go aftermarket cooler. The aftermaket coolers are better any way.
I had kind of made up my mind to go with an x800xl or 6800GT depending on prices a couple weeks before Christmas (willing to go a little more for the GT). Now with this GS, I think they will sell like hot cakes. I will be looking at newegg evey day, and these forums to see when the GS comes out. As soon as I see one at newegg I plan on getting one.
I have had excellent cards from both ATI and NVIDIA. I think NVIDIA may hit the sweet spot with this agp 6800GS if they price the AGP any where close to the PCI version. The PCI version seem like a steal for the price, if only I had a PCI mobo. Not quite ready to make the change to PCI yet though.
