File sharing over subnets
Hi, I have 2 machines, one on 199.199.2.200, and one on 199.199.4.100.
Both running Win XP.
I can map a drive to the 4 subnet, but when I try and place any files there, I get an 'access denied' error. I have set permissions for everyone to read/write etc.
Any ideas why this would be? I have XP firewall on blocking file sharing from/to any machine other than the specific IP I am using. Even with the FW off I get the same error.
Thanks in advance,
Spardan

...and it's not the 'common user' thing. I created an account on both machines called 'servershare' and still no joy.
Meh.

Same workgroup or domain?
Have you enabled file sharing on both PCs?
Have you logged in to both PCs with the same user name/password?

yes, yes and yes. It's an odd one... got me stumped. My 'quick fix' has been simply to install radmin with extremely locked down settings.

So your logging in locally to the machine that your mapping from? Creating a user doesn't mean much if your not logged onto the machine with that username. Also, I'd leave the everyone share permission but lock down your share on the security tab, NTFS permissions. Remove everyone if it is on there and add your user acount your logged onto the remote machine with.
Oh, don't post your IP on a public BBS. Not a good idea.

I can log in remotely and locally. I don't get your point there. Are you saying that you can't log in remotely as a different user to the logged in user on the remote machine?

I didn't

Can you explain what these two IP address are then?

I believe it's a net block belonging to Onvoy in Minnessota. Both are firewalled, I think (according to nmap).
