Toshiba A20 - Unmountable boot volume
I was uninstalling Norton Antivirus which called for a system reboot upon which I received a blue screen with unmountable boot volume. This also occurs when starting up in ms-dos but in safemode it hangs on aliagp.sys, video system, resulting with the same error message. My Windows XP OS is a Recovery CD Rom, could I obtain a XP CD image to create the cd and boot from to access the recovery console? Or are there other avenues to resolve this other than paralleling the drives saving the files and starting from scratch?
Any help appreciated!

Is GoBack installed on this machine?
It could very well be that the hard drive is failing. This would be my guess.

It sounds to me like the boot.ini file got damaged. If you can run chkdsk /r from a recovery disk or the recovery panel, it will restore the boot.ini file.

no Goback,
would have to take apart to find drive brand,
the recovery disk is a backup recovery disk.

You can find chkdsk on a bootdisk from here... http://techtips4u.com/downloads/
Just download the right version.
