8 Megapixel Camera Phones
With this new sensor, now available, cell phone and smartphone manufacturers can integrate an 8 megapixel camera into the mobile handsets they make without increasing their size to accommodate the additional 5 megapixels. So instead of 3 megaixels being the norm, 8 megapixel shooters could soon become commonplace in the mobile handsets we use.

Chalk up another one for the LTE team, as it has yet another big proponent in the ever-raging 4G war. Not even two months after Verizon gave LTE the nod over WiMAX / UMB, the board of the GSM Association has now voted to support Long Term Evolution as the mobile broadband solution to follow HSPA. The GSMA also noted that it would be interfacing with other outfits / organizations that are developing LTE technology and begin work with the NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Networks) initiative. Furthermore, Rob Conway, the entity's CEO, reportedly called on the International Telecommunication Union to "ensure the industry wins the spectrum needed to offer mobile broadband." 'Course, we've already heard that things are shaping up nicely (in testing) for the standard, but winning over the GSMA is likely to incite some serious celebrating in the offices of LTE backers everywhere.

The creators of Doom and Quake are officially taking their games mobile.
KLIK PIC .. "We are operating on the assumption that mobile gaming has a potential for huge growth," says id co-founder John Carmack. "It's at a tipping point. Everybody has a phone, and almost every phone is powerful enough to do good games on it."
The rise in casual gaming internationally is expected to help drive mobile-gaming revenues from less than $5 billion this year

KLIK THE PIK - Google Maps on Android software
Google is already operating an advanced high-speed wireless network under a test license from the FCC, according to people familiar with the matter. The company has erected transmission towers on its campus for the network. Prototype mobile handsets powered by the Android software are currently running on it. Experience with the technology could aid the company in operating a full-fledged carrier, one of the options it's considering. Google is betting it could potentially build and operate a wireless network faster and cheaper than traditional operators. In that event, the company could try new wireless technology approaches. Google this year invested in a closely held United Kingdom company called Ubiquisys Ltd. that makes a technology called femtocell, which allows mobile phones in poor-coverage areas to use home Internet connections to make calls and transfer data. Such technology could potentially be harnessed as part of any Google wireless infrastructure. If Google is successful.......
