DMV Question
Hey guys,
I was pretty much from birth born with very bad eyesight, worse in the right then the left. Now I'm trying to pass the vision test at the California DMV, but there is no way I can make out anything with my right eye. Both open and only left I can manage, but not with the right. I was wondering if I can pass with just both and left open, but not the right. Also I do have contacts and glasses, but it wont help that much as to make it visible with the right.
Thanks

Vision exam requirement
A 20/40 visual acuity with or without glasses is the department's vision guideline. Customers applying for a Class A, B, or commercial C license must see 20/40 with both eyes and each eye individually. The departmental authority for administering the vision exam is 12804.9 (a) (1) (E) of the California Vehicle Code.
Visual acuity measurements are obtained for both eyes together and for each eye separately while both eyes remain open, as in normal driving. There are two methods of testing, a Snellen chart or Optec 1000 Vision Tester.
The Snellen chart contains five lines of letters and measures the portion of an applicant's general seeing ability, known as visual acuity or keenness of vision. The Optec 1000 Vision Tester obtains a more precise vision score by providing a test situation, which is equivalent to placing the applicant at one end of a room 26 feet long to read a test target at the opposite end of the room.
Applicants who do not pass either exams may, depending on the circumstances, be referred to a vision specialist. The vision specialist may prescribe eye glasses or a stronger prescription for the current eye glasses worn.

Never noticed any myopia in Grandpa. He lived a normal life, and even employed a few ppl during the depression.
Don't know about other states... California and Texas both have mandatory insurance for everybody except illegals of course, they do whatever they f'in well please.

There are many drivers with only one eye, it's a minor disability, compared to the amount of people on the road without a brain. I once had a GF who lost an eye in an auto accident as a child, and she got her DL at 17 like the rest of us.
genesound, what stops illegals getting a drivers licence, and mandatory insurance.
There are many illegals here, and I'm sure they dont get asked to prove there residency status when applying for a licence. Also, if they drive without a licence and get pulled over by the cops, it would be obvious they were illegal and deportation should be mandatory.

That may be true in the police state of California. Here in Hawaii you can get a license with only one good eye and if you drove normally you could easily go a life time without ever getting stopped.

Money for one, then there's the movement to disallow illegals a license. As for the cops there's a general order for the city cops to not cooperate with immigration that goes back to the Davis admin.
Mostly mefinks it's the hoplessness that goes wiv illegal status. Why bother? Just don't get caught!

Freakin ridiculous ........ Why do you guys need many differing sets of rules fer one country ?
If you have one set of rules, all would be singing from the same hym book so to speak & ther would be little room for misinterpretation...... Nice & simple

Yeah, that local order is in direct violation of state and federal laws but has stood unchallenged for decades.
It's 50 states, some of which are bigger than most countries.

There should be a system in place that would refuse illegal aliens from recieving any driving entitlement .......... Whats goin' on here?
