There is also a piece of hardware named Emerson Switchboard. It will ring if an incoming call is present. Do a Google search for one, about $25-$30 bucks, but I bought two at eBay for $10.00.

Here is one that will be gone in a few minutes, but will be sold for $0.99 cents.

Requires call waiting from your telephone company...all of these call notifiers, software or hardware will require call waiting from the phone company.

Also needs a V.92 modem right? One of the ones that won't be cut off by the call waiting signal beeps.
With the right software (that should come with the modem) and Caller ID you can even get a pop-up box telling you who is calling.

We have had software for that but it is owned by Bellsouth. If we change ISP's, whe have to find another "brand".

That kind of software is usually network specific. I had it when I still used dial-up, bt when I changed ISPs (and my phone providor) just before going broadband the software stopped working.

yeah, pretty much. The ultimate way to not miss phone calls is called broadband.
