    In the Pipeline...

So at this point in time, my plan was and still is to build a new computer based on AMD64. I currently run these four machines.

    Intel Pentium 4 2.6C (Northwood)
    Gigabyte 8IPE1000 Pro Motherboard i865PE/ICH5 chipset(the expensive one )
    512 MB RAM
    80 GB HDD
    80 GB HDD
    DVD Burner
    CD-RW/DVD Combo
    Floppy
    Radeon 9200SE 128MB
    Agere Modem
Netgear WG311 Wifi using Netgear Drivers
Netgear WG311 Wifi using Atheros Drivers
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 1.83GHz(Unlocked)
MSI Motherboard VIA KT600 Chipset(can't remember which one)
    512 MB RAM
    80GB HDD
    Floppy
    Radeon 7000 64 MB
Netgear WG311 Wifi using Netgear Drivers
Linksys 54G Wifi using Linksys Drivers
    Fusion BT878A TV Tuner
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Toshiba 5105-S701 Laptop
    Pentium 4 Mobile 1.8 GHz
    512 MB RAM
    60 GB HDD
    DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Toshiba WiFi B/G using Toshiba Drivers
    15.4 Inch Screen
    Toshiba AMR Modem
Harmon/Kardon Speakers with Sub-woofer (built into laptop)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Last but not least

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (Unsure of core but it has a square die)
    40GB HDD
    Adaptec SCSI card
    Biostar M7VIG Motherboard VIA chipset
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to build a new machine with an AMD Athlon 64 Socket 939 CPU.

I do not care much for Dual Core as I do not see an immediate need for it in my own life especially with its current pricing.

But my problem remains as such.

Which of the four machines should I get rid of. Unlike some of our financially spoiled members here I need to sell at least one of these machines in order to make room for thisnew computer. The LAPTOP must stay however. I hang onto the Athlon XP 2500 becuase of it overclockability and because it represents waht AMD is all about.

So what CPU do you think would suit me in the form of a new computer?

Also, when will DDR2 be out for AMD and what else is coming down the pipeline within the next year?

I hope that all made sense. I've been out of the loop for some time now and would like to know what is up and coming and what is going on right now.

I'd get rid of the first one, that'll give you the most amount of money to put towards an AMD 64 system.

DDR2 is still a little ways away for AMD. And since you're on a budget, you'll want to forget about that option becuase they will likely be pricey when they first become available.

I'd chime in, but you really aren't saying what you use the computers for and what your going to use the A64 for. Can't tell you which to dump or if it is worthwhile to upgrade (and to what) when the info isn't there.
