    Are 6600GT's any good?

    I'm considering of upgrading my old Geforce 4200 TI video cards in my pc's. I play mainly City of Heroes and I will be playing soon City of Villains. Are the 6600's that much better quality to buy as replacements? Or should I consider ATI video cards? The 800XT looks good, but they are about $100 dollars more per card. I get lag alot for the past few months for some reason and I don't know if it is my cable connection or my vid cards. I have checked the speed of my cable connection and it reads about 3mb's + per/sec. The Geforce cards are around 2-3 years olds. Is it time to upgrade yet? My systems are mainly based around a Athlon 1.5 mhz system. Using a Dragon Platinum plus KT333 mobo.

    The 6600GT is a great card, the best 'bang for your buck' you can currently get. It far outperforms a 9800 Pro, at a similar (if not lower) price.

    You might have performance issues even if you get a 6600GT with your Athlon 1.5Ghz processor. That will be slowing you down for modern games big time.

    Your motherboard should support up to a AMD Barton 3000+ so that would help along with the 6600GT... I hope you have at least 512 MB RAM?

    http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=AX-3000&c=pw = $93 shipped.

    As for the lag, you might have viruses and spyware. Check oput this link and use some of the utilities to scan your PC...

    Good luck!

    the cpu will definitely be a bottleneck for the 6600GT.

    I think you meant the X800XL, not the XT. The X800XTs are way more than a $100 over the price of a 6600GT.

    think a 6200 would be good for what he has now and has DX9 capability.

    link

    Or if you gan get a Barton XP3000 (333 FSB) on the mainboard like mentioned above a 6600GT would be nice. eVGA has one at the egg for 150'ish.

    I'm not too sure if a 6200 is much of an upgrade from a Ti4200. I'd recommend a minimum of a plain 6600 with a 6600GT preferable (it's only $40 more but you can actually use this card for some years to come).

    The 6600GT will definitely be a good upgrade. I upgraded my Ti4400 to a 6600T and it has a huge improvement in performance especially the newer games.

    The 6200 won't be much of an upgrade unless your sticking with that CPU but the 6200 TurboCache version can be midded to be a 6600!!!

    IF you can aford it then take a look at the eVGA 6800nu it's 'bout $35 + US more but will beat the 6600GT, it get better as ur resolution goes up an it's much better at AA/AF.

    6800LE = 8 pipelines and 4 vs (256 bit DDR)
    6800(NU) = 12 pipelines and 5 vs (256 bit DDR)
    6800GT =16 pipelines and 6 vs (256 bit DDR)

    LeadTech A400 6800LE = a 6600GT at low res but get better at higher res, plus has 256 vs 128 for the 6600GT. It's cheaper too at newegg

    6800nu eVGA beats the 6800LE all round, price tag 'bout $189 US

    Check out guru3D forum on these cards, some good info exist...

    ehheeh that for sure but look at again at 6800LE you can unlock all the pipelines to 16 not 8...no antiface... please keep 4 vertex or if you unlock 2 more vertex you will got antiface for sure.. i run this card so i know.. the temp around 50-55 max.. i fan kind of crazy sound at peak.. but it nice card.. it cheap too well try it yourself and good luck with unlock the pipeline..

    here my
    Leadtek 6800LE
    8pipeline
    4vertex
    128mb
    256-bit interface
    unlock to 16pipelines
    4vertex
    same
    same
    change name to 6800 ultra now... and the memory kind of report to GDR3 heheheh kind of funny

    I love my 6600GT Upgraded from a 9600pro and love it to bits. You can pick a 6600GT up for about £30 less than when I got mine a couple of months ago (Technology is advancing too quickly!) so they're WELL worth it in my opinion!
    Eh?
