Problem with Sapphire Radeon X700 256Mb AGP

    Hey!

I have just got a brand new card, and it installed nicely, but when I reboot the machine, it plays half of the "welcome-to-windows" tune, and then everything freezes.
I have the newest drivers (fresh from the ati website), and I also got 1GB of Ram,
an Nvidia Nforce2 Nv7 Ultra 400 motherboard with an XP 2600+ processor mounted on it win Windows XP Pro installed. Should be no problem there.

It runs great in safemode, and can turn the resolution up sky high there, but when
i boot the machine in normal mode, it freezes.

I spent "some hours" last night to figure out the problem (i'm an IT technician), but got "mad" at the end and reinstalled the whole machine.
Got all the updates from microsoft, installed directx9.0c, and then the drivers for the card.
Reboots the machine, and the same thing happens again!

I'm kind of lost here... anyone been there, done that with that graphic card?

I haven't worked with that particular card, but here's a couple things to try.

set the agp to 4x instead of 8x.

set the agp aperature to 128 or 64.

did you get the latest nvidia chipset drivers?

I have gone through the system again after posting the previous message, and I think I'll take a look for new AGP drivers.
The signature file says its from 2003...

I'll post the results later this weekend.

Well, even the guys in the computerstore where I bought it
couldnt get it to work on my computer (had one of them on visit)
so i traded the card to and G4 6600GT AGP card...
    Everything works nicely now.. :-)

Hrm I just noticed u said u had an NForce mobo. Weren't there some parts of the ATi driver that conflicted with NForce boards? I thought the catalysts conflicted and to solve the problem u just don't install them.

I'm not sure about that. I have an NForce motherboard with a 9800 Pro, no compatibility problems with the Catalyst drivers for me.
