ATI Beefs Up Catalyst with UI, Notebook Improvements
I have an eMachine m6508 laptop. It has an ati mobile 9600 radeon graphics card in it. I can't get any of the catalyst drivers to work with my card.
Has anyone else with an emachine laptop and mobile ati radeon graphics card been able too?
Thanks in advance

please post to the proper forum. this is not news related.
you cannot use the normal catalysts on a mobile chip.
ati just started to release mobility catalyst drivers.

From the ATI website...
"ATI Mobile Graphics products in notebooks
Display drivers and multimedia applications for notebooks with ATI graphics solutions are available for download from your Notebook manufacturer.
For your convenience, a list of links to notebook manufacturers is available in the ATI Onboard section of our website.
The display driver supplied with a given notebook has been customized for:
the built-in flat panel display
any other graphics or video options installed in that specific computer.
As a result of these customizations, ATI Customer Care is unable to offer drivers for notebooks."
Wouldn't this indicate that ATI is not the place to go for your mobility catalysts?
I'd like to ask about experiences with the dna-modded drivers. They seem to be a lot faster than ASUS in getting out mobility radeon updates. Where would I post a question about that if not in the section on video cards?
Thx.

Like I said, ATI just started to release mobility catalysts.
you can also try mobility modder from the "best of video" sticky.
I'm not a fan of "modded" driver sets, but you can always try 'em. I've seen too many people complain about problems and I always have to tell them to revert back to the catalysts.

Good to know, thanks.
I think ATI's approach is to get mobility catalysts only from your manufacturer. I wouldn't complain, except ASUS is 8 months and counting behind in certifying catalyst drivers.
They billed this as a 'gaming laptop' except I don't have access to one of the key resources in running a gaming rig: updated drivers.
I'm beginning to think the best advice for people looking for mobile game machines is to go with a micro-atx/shuttle type thing with a travelling LCD. Laptops just don't have the support that the power user requires to properly exercise the hardware.
I think I'm going to stay away from the DNA/modded drivers. It sounds like a headache, and I don't *just* use the laptop for gaming, it's gotta work at work too.
