Asus TX97-e
Hi Guys,
It's been a while, but I am around again
I've got a question about my older TX97-E board which still runs as my linux server with a K6-III+ @ 500MHz.
This board can take both AT and ATX powersupplies.
The AT powersupply has only 12 and 5 volt rails, and the ATX has an extra 3.3 volt rail.
Does anyone know if the TX97-e actually benefits from this 3.3 volt option when connecting an ATX ps?
Thanks,
Mike.

The board would use the 3.3 volt rail to power the memory if it was available. If not, it uses a second set of voltage regulators to provide this power.

That sounds good to me.
However, someone else said that in fact this is an AT board with just an ATX connector, and it leaves the 3.3 volt rail unused.
Hmmm.. What do you think?
Mike.

From what I can see on the Asus website it appears that the 3.3 volt may be used when an atx compatible psu is attached. If not then a second voltage regulator (probably isolated from the 3.3 volt rail by a diode) then provides the ram power.
Unless you have a compelling need to replace the power supply, I'd leave well-enough alone so long as it works and is stable.
