i turned on my computer and in less than 5 minutes my computer crashed while downloading some video by firewire on adobre premiere anyways , when i turned off the computer i looked inside and my video card was extremely hot so it was the energy plug , since its a radeon 9800 pro and it need his own energy

    moved thread to VC forum.

do you have a pci card right next to your 9800? 9800s are notorious for overheating. you might consider getting an aftermarket cooler, like a zalman vf700cu or Arctic silencer.

you can try a different molex connector. are there any other devices on the same powerline as your card? try putting the video card on its own line (aka no other devices)

yeah its on his own line but yeah it gets hot even the plugs get hot so im thinking theres something with the power supply
anyways im thinking about getting a new power supply ,
    i got asus motherboard
    athlon xp 2200
    1gigs ddr pc2700
1 pci with 5 usb ports
1 pci with 3 firewire port
    1 network card
    ati radeon 9800 pro
1 ibm 80gigs master hard drive
2 300 western digital master hard drive

i got a dvd rom and a cd-rw but im not using them because if i plug them then some other stuff wont work on the computer so i use external dvd - rw
anyways how much power would my new power supply should have?

There is a good guide for calculating what your system needs in terms of Watts.

What do you have for case ventilation in your system? It seems as though your system is pretty tightly packed, if you don't have good airflow, overheating will certainly be a problem.

If the plug is getting hot I'd suspect the female end on his board and the solder joints before the PSU.

it says 300 watts is enugh but my psu is 400watts it got like 3 years already so i guess it can be that , sometimes even if there video card is connected it says it isnt , or it goes the same with the hard drives .
i got two fans front and back
and its always open , plus i got a huge case since its easier to work with cables and all

ima try to organize my cables and all that is inside my computer right now and clean it too and ill see later whats happens

Saying your PSU is 400w is meaningless by itself. There is a lot more to a PSU than wattage alone. What brand is it? My guess is it has a weak 12v rail, especialy if having cd-rom/dvd drives plugged in is causing you problems. You have a lot of things using the 12v rail, including your video card, and your 3 hard drives. I would be suspicous of your PSU. Also, make sure the fan on your video card is working properly, and you have good airflow in your case.
