    outlook disconnect modem

Outlook express in win 98 disconnects modem at send/recieve. Outlook is not set to hang up after send recieve, nor is it checked to work offline under the file menu.
If I am dialed up & open outlook it disconnects immediately. If I redial it checks mail etc. ok & downloads mail if I have it. Seems to work ok. Then if I click send/recieve it disconnects immediately.

Tried deleting & recreating dialup. no good.
Uninstalled & reinstalled u.s. robotics controller based modem. no good.
went to add & remove programs & tried repair on explorer & internet tools. no
Tried rolling back to previous installation (IE 5) no good.
Performed windows updates & reinstalled IE 6. same thing.

I've done virus scans with norton & antivir. Using newest up to date adaware, spybot, & spyware blaster.
    I shut off my firewall-norton
Nothing works. I'm running out of ideas. Maybe I shoud try a different modem. I'm not experiencing disconnects at any other time.??????????????

It might be related to a problem I had a few days ago where I could dialup but couldn't load a page. I had to delete my network adapters, & comletely remove my network before a page would load.

Use the repair in help menu or reinstall outlook or office, you'll need the cd for repairs and reinstalls.

Yes I will probably have to reinstall. I sort of have a work around though, under tools-options-connections I checked ask before switching dialup connections. Now when I open outlook express it asks if I want to try & locate the server on the current connection or if I want to hang up & dial my old connection that no longer exists. If I tell it to look on the current connection it goes ahead & works without disconnection. One extra click. annoying but not enought to make me work at it any more. thanks

Sad to hear that Al has passed away.
