    windows xp question

ok this might sound like abit of a weird question but here goes.
when you press the start button on the task bar you get a list of programs on your left that you have recently used.
when i shut down my computer as normal and turn it back on and enter windows, i click on the start button on the task bar and those recently used programs have gone and its left as blank spaces.

if so does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

hope you know wat i mean

    thanks

    Stop what?

Those recently-used programs only apply to the current session. It clears itself by design when you log off.

To stop it from clearing properties on start ->customize -> advanced tab, check (list my most recently opened documents)

I think I have an idea of what you are talking about. If you meant that the programs don't appear at all for a few seconds, you have "use personalized menus" selected, whcih is on by default. To fix that, right-click on your task bar, select "Properties" and uncheck "use personalized menus". Viola!

The OS is in the title of the thread. I often miss that too.

He's talking about the new dual-column Start menu in XP. Recently-used programs show in the left column. You can turn the feature off or on, but you cannot change it's behavior.

I use the old menu, myself. It could be that sturlez2k is using come sort of temp file cleanup program on each restart.

I'll bet that's what it is. I've seen the option somewhere in a tweaking program.

thanks for the reply people. it seems 2 happen now almost every time my computer starts up from a cold boot. I am running windows xp pro, with sp1 and sp2 updates.
also when ive used nero burner 6 (5.5.9.9) in the past (either to create a cd or copy one) i will shut down the computer at some point and when i turn it back on again and windows loads up i get the "vanishing" recently-used programs show in the left column.

its a strange goins on but i jst cant seem 2 to work it out.
if it was a temp clean up program on each restart how would i stop it?

    thanks

Only you would know if a temp cleanup program was running at startup. Check with MSCONFIG.EXE.
