remote control via FTP

Hi there

I've got few Qs

1)is there any way to connect to my personal PC from office"LAN"noting that my PC at home has a static IP...is there any software to be installed at my personal computer "noting that I cant install any software at my office PC"
what i want is to transfere files from office to home.

2) if I connect the LAN cable"at office" to my laptop, can I use the LAN for internet connection?

3)how can I conifgure MSN messenger at office "proxy settings and etc..."

just wanna add two things:

My connection at home is via cable modem"LAN" what about the internal and external IP how can i find them and which one to use?

and what about the window firewall.. is it a must to disable in order to establish the connection from Office PC?

No you can't control a PC using FTP.

1.) No, if your office will not let you install software on the office PC, then you are out of luck. They do that for a reason.

2.) If your laptop is set for a static IP address for home, then it will not work for internet at work unless you change all of the network settings.

3.) Ask your network admin. Since they do not allow software to be installed, then I doubt that they will let you run MSN messanger either.

NOTE: This only covers the file-transfer part. The rest is dodgy.
Make sure you thoroughly understand your company policies before doing anything. However, the below is not illegal in ANY way.

I personally transfer files from home to work and vice versa--these are personal files as I do some personal web work at lunch.

If you're running Windows XP at home, you can set up IIS, enable FTP, and make sure that your Windows firewall is set to allow port 21 traffic.

From work, you can use Internet Explorer. Type ftp://x.x.x.x (where x.x.x.x is your home public IP address). There you go. FTP ability.
