Windows Update trouble
I am trying to do the latest windows updates but as soon as I click the install it loads up the box and sats failed next to all the updates.
Why might it be doing this?
I have disabled the services that I didnt need acording to the guide someone posted here. May have I disabled something that is stopping it working by accident?

I'd check the services again, things like disabling help on the start menu from accessing the net could impede other processes, networking etc.

also empty your IE cache, cookies, etc (stupid IE is always full of ****)
set all IE options back to default
you can also delete the windows update directory
so it brings everything back down new
i've seen that before

where is the "windows update directory"
BTW: I am using XP SP2

I couldn't update until I'd turned on the BITS, Automatic Updates, and Event Viewer services. They had to be set to automatic before it would allow me to update (not just manual and running, but automatic). Go to Start>run>services.msc then double-click the aforementioned and make sure they are set to auto, then click on the "start service" button.

Setting the automatic updates and security centre has allowed it to update thanks guys.
I will set them back to disabled after updating though.

Seriously, that has got to be one of the few biggest irony that M$ has in their arsenal of screwed-up glitches.
I have tried and encountered that before, disabling Automatic Updates in the first place because I was tweaked for less "startup services".
The user obviously in this case wants to do the updates himself manually, not automatically. Yet windowsupdate refuses to run without automatic updates services enabled.

Just another one of M$ stupid glitches

mine doesn't work at all with auto update turned on or off. nothing has been disabled otherwise.
If I seem superhuman, I have been misunderstood!

Don't resurrect 3 year old threads. It's unlikely that the original poster will reply. Plus you already have a thread about your BSOD problem.
