    installing a floppy...the red wire

    Hi.

I am about to install a 3.5 inch floppy drive. The wire to the power supply is not keyed. However, can you confirm that if I am looking at the BACK of the drive, that the RED wire on the power chord TO THE DRIVE must be on the RIGHT (so I don't install it upside-down)? I think this is correct but want to be sure. Thanks.

    Marc

it can be either way depending on the brand. plug it in and if the floppy light stays on constantly, flip it over. it's a very common issue.

The red wire almost alwsays is on the same side as the power connector.

Note: Almost always is not a guarenteed always.

The power supply plug IS keyed, the thinner side with the lock notch goes toward the PCB of the drive.

For the signal cable, there is no rule. Look for a "1", arrow/triangle marker, or other mark that might denote pin-1 of the connector. This is where the colored side of the ribbon cable goes.
