Video Card Installed/System Hangs...HELP!
One of my computer is a Dell Dimension 8100 with a 4x Version 2.0 AGP. I recently bought a GeForce nVIDIA FX 5700 LE card with 256 MB of DDR. I took out the old one (ATi RADEON 7500 64MBDDR) and put this one in. I booted it up but instead of seeing a display I saw a blank screen and my system hanging there not doing a thing but idling. If anybody think I did something wrong please tell me. My neighbor thinks it's a bad card but I want to make that a last possiblity.
TIA...

Did you remove the old drivers before you installed the new ones? If not, put the old card back in, uninstall the drivers, run Driver Cleaner in Safe mode to get rid of any remaining traces of the drivers. Only then should you put the new card in and attempt to install its drivers.
Here's a link to drivercleaner:

I removed the drivers, but I didn't go to that website. I'll try it a sec.

Nope. Still hangs. Forget it, nothing's meant to work on this computer.

Have you tried putting the card in another computer and seeing if you get a display? If not, i'd lean toward believing the card was D.O.A.

I wish I could but on the stupid holidays nobody is around. I'll try to do that asap.

Yup. It's a dead card. Just tried it my both my neighbors computers and did the same thing as mine did. What are the odds? Oh well.
Thanks for that driver cleaner program. It'll come in handy when I get a "working" card.

No problem...its unfortunate when the card is D.O.A., but hopefully you can return it for a working one since you recently bought it.

I've had this happen when it conflicts with NIC cards, I took the NIC out, installed the card, then put the NIC back in.
It was an older card that this happened with... But might still happen with some new ones.

You mean the *Network *Interface *Card? And if yes what would that have to do with anything?

Dunno... Just was doing it. LOL.
Some conflict between them. I'm not technically advanced enough to know why.
