help with budget gaming pc!!
ok, i've got a budget of about $650 and am looking to build a good gaming pc. I've got the hard drive, and the disk drives and monitor although it's kinda small (15") but if it'd fit within the budget, i'd go for it.
so, can someone put together some good components?

A high quality PSU is a must if you want to have a gaming machine. Don't buy any generic-named one.

If he wants a gaming PC, a LCD is out of the question.

the one i have right now is a crt, got it out of some guys trash, all it needed was a power cord!
other than out of my price range.. why would an lcd be out of the question?

Yosh thats a great system if it fits in the budget. Probably going to have to spend closer to $80 for a good PSU.
There is no way a good monitor will fit into that budget without major cuts in hardware. I would get a 19" CRT eventually, but not with that budget. A good 19" LCD will take up almost all the budget in itself.

6800GT + 512PC3200 Ram would beat a 9800pro with 1gbPC3200 ram easy.
Although adding another 512 stick eventually is a good idea, it dosen't absolutely need it right away.

what are some good brands for memory? other than crucial (cheaper)

9800XT in place of a 6800, not a good idea at all. 512MB of RAM is plenty, also it is a very cheap and easy upgrade, so if down the road he wants another 512MB of RAM he just pays $75 and pops it in.
As for cheaper RAM, I would stay with Crucial as that price is pretty low, and anything lower your just buying generic.
