Erase Files, Then Recycle
Uhhh.... X's and O's? Since when could you write X's to a hard drive???

Well you never know when you might get X files on your computer. It's good to know some online source will take them off your hands for you or give you some for that matter when you don't have any.

I wondered where they came from too but assumed they new what they were on about
How is this different to any of the free utils that let you wipe your disk from start to finish as many times as you want from a boot disk. I got one somewhere that'll write alternating FF's and 00's (hex) on different passes, it'll even let you specify what to write, when to write it and how many times.
Surely a util that wipes like that is no more or less secure than the next?

You have to be suspicious of a service like that. With the online virus scanners we know they are trying to sell us something. With a script powerful enough to zero write a drive, what else can it do?

It's probably some kind of "secret" Government agency that expects to catch a few unsuspecting company directors trying to hide their financial mis-deeds. I mean you'd have to be pretty dumb to think there was a profitable market for this kind of service otherwise IMO.
