No heatsink or fan??? What the heck???
Dad just got his brand new BFG Asylum GeForce 2 MX400 PCI card and it has NO heatsink or fan on it. It was sealed in retail box and all.
Why doesn't it have one? It doesn't even have the holes around the GPU for the "clip on" heatsinks or fan.
Does it not need one?

That just how it is.

That card doesn't produce nearly as much heat as the high end cards today, so it doesn't require the heatsink.

You SURE man??? Cuz I got a PNY one and it's got a heatsink. So does the broken AGP one (whoops, heh heh, thought I destroyed that).
Both run pretty toasty...
Well, I suppose if it blows up... Good ole lifetime warrantee... LOL.

I can see not having a fan, but no heatsink either? Thats odd.

If the gpu manufacturer's specs don't require it, the OEMs won't add anything extra. It's all about the $$$.

It shouldn't need it. An Nvidia Riva doesn't need a heatsink either.

The new(er) 9600SE radeons don't have a fan.
A GeForce 2MX 200 might not need a heatsink/fan, but I'd be happier if they came with one, the 400 really does need one!

I have a MX400 in my parents and my sisters box with no fan, but it does have a rather small heat sink which does get pretty hot. I wouldn't want to run it without it. However, they are AGP cards so Im not sure if the PCI version is less powerfull thus producing less heat, it very well might be.
