    1. Is this a legal or illegal copy of XP?
    2. Try downloading it again. By a link from this forum, do you mean the Mircrosoft site?

Get it here...it is the newtwork version, about 273MB...but, it should work just fine.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I've burned this to a disk, and upgraded home and work PC no issues.

    Good luck...

I'm a little fuzzy on my .sys files, but...I think that's a needed file for XP to recognize disks larger than 137 GB.

Try checking your files, for corruption.

From a command prompt, run this:

    sfc /scannow

    See what happens...

I had that happen too. Skip the file and the service pack will install fine.

I got that with a recent machine build and Service Pack 1. Do you have Daemon Tools of Alcohol 120% installed? If so, uninstall it, do the update, then reinstall it...

For me, it was Daemon Tools, but I imagine Alcohol will have the same effect.

SP2 should only be downloaded from Microsoft - you may be installing a "tampered with" copy that opens specific ports, etc.
