I guess when it comes out, it will be new MOBO time.

not really (ie like you can put pc133 into a computer that use only a 66MHZ or 100MHZ bus settings and so it just runs is at that speed)
It is just reverted back to settings for the cpu.
What we will need is a CPU and a Motherboard that has a bios for the new cpus with a update for the higher fsb that the cpus use that can handle this faster ram though.

    Don't buy the hype yet

The bandwidth will be increased, but the latency will go up. Depending on what applications the user will be using performance will suffer or improve.
Applications that randomly access most of their memory will have performance killed because of the latencies, but applications that have smooth memory requests will get a boost.
In reality, page hits only constitute somewhere around 30% of all read requests, the majority of transfers still originates with page misses, causing several penalty cycles or latencies to occur until the correct data can be transferred to the CPU.
    -Lostcircuits article
And in servers about 95% of requests are random so this memory is NOT suitable for them.
There are a few innovations that could be carried over to DDR I , but overall it is trading latency for bandwidth.
    QBM technology seems more interesting.

there wouldnt be much point in that though. i know that the point of that particular example would be that you cant get 66Mhz or 100Mhz RAM. but what is the point in putting 533 on a 400 or 333 mobo. just a waste of money really

if you didn't have the money to upgrade your entire system at once, but did have enough to upgrade the ram, that would be a reason to buy faster RAM but run it at a lower speed than it is made for.
