screen positioning all wrong in games

    i have a nvidia geforce 4 ti4200 gc, using drivers 56.72

problem i have is that when i play certain games the screen will 'push' itself to the right side of the screen, leaving a black bar about and inch wide on the left hand side of the screen.
the screen res is 50.9khz, 100hz.
i believe the res should be 81.4 or 109khz???
for example. in the game fifa 04 and euro 04, the menus all have this problem, but when the game starts it fixes itself, everything is centered and working properly. in nfs underground, its the game that is having this problem while the menus are fine.

    what could the problem be.
i never had this problem before.

    thanks

    p.s i have a 19" sony trinitron monitor (desktop res is 1280 x 1024 at 100hz)

The problem is that the resolution/refresh rate combination doesn't produce a centered image. Try changing the game resolution and see if there is an option in the game to change the refresh rate. I think there is way to force certain refresh rates for certain resolutions in your Nvidia Drivers. You might wanna check that too.

Yes, it's the combination of what your screen resolution is set to and what your game resolution is set to.

I have a 19" CRT that I run at 1152x864 @ 75hz. If I try to play a game that only offers 1024x768 or 1280X1024 (skipping where my monitor is set at) it will sometimes run it offset to the right side. Jamil's method of getting it to work is exactly what I do too. Just fiddle with the games resolution and refresh rate until you get it to fit correctly.
