Anti-Virus Poll & Question
Here's an old one again........
Which anti-virus program?
I read this review of 4 AV programs and one I have never heard of came out tops every time, " Hauri" ??
Anyone have any good/bad experience with this AV before I part with cash?

****edit
I have previously used bit-defender and Mcafee and found them quite good, bit-defender a better though and free

I use one from Parsons technology called Virucide 2001. It never (supposedly) needs an update as its engine actually is designed to look for certain activities characteristic to virii. It looks for anything that's trying to write to or modify the registry ( this can be a pain when installing, you have to remember to disable it or else) and certain other activities that are common to virii. So far I have to say it's worked great. It's caught a few that have tried to sneak in on email attachments that were legit but had picked up the virus somewhere on the way. I'm careful about downloads so I don't run a great risk anyhow, but it's caught a few trying to come in that way as well. I also use Trend online and AVG as a monthly scan, so far, nothing found.

Viruses, not virii.
But that's great that it can actually be intelligent like that and recognize viruses. Norton and other's would never make something like that, as that would defeat the purpose of having new virus scanners come out every year.

I use updated AVG. It often finds viruses that it can{t remove. In that event, I use the latest Advent Stinger and remove the offending agents.

Yeah, too bad they stopped making it. I have it and have made several copies ( for backup). Like I said, the biggest problem I have with it is when I install or update ( windows updates drive it crazy ) because they want to write to the reg. If I forget to disable it, it goes nuts, and sometimes will foul the install even. So, I just have to remember to disable before doing anything of that sort.

Just for information, here is a good, absolutely FREE virus scanner.
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/index.cfm?
(they teamed up w/microsoft to make a free scanner)

I've had viruses get past McAfee, and Norton couldn't find a virus if you pointed it out. Thusfar the best AV I've found is PC Cillin from Trend. What I'd LIKE to find is a small manual virus scanner without all the automatic **** that loads my system down.. not that my cpu cant handle it :P I used to use Kaspersky AV, but it became way too system invasive and corrupted Windows quite frequently.

I used McAfee and Symantec for years and just recently had some viruses on my computer. McAfee required that I remove the whole file as the file could not be cleaned. I installed Symantec and they told me the same thing. The virus infected about 75 exe files. I started looking for an anti virus which could clean instead of delete. Panda Anti Virus was able to clean all these files that both McAfee and Symantec could not. Panda gets my vote!
