    RAMing Around

Ok I have look at almost every post here and cant find the answer to my question.

I would like 1gig of PC3200. Thats the easy part, now for the brain buster. Do I want a 1x1gig, 2x256 & 1x512, or 2x256. AND do I want ECC and/or Registered orUnbuffered? My brain is about to explode with all these choices
Or would I get that much better preformace with 2 gigs of RAM???

I will be puting on a AMD 2500+Barton, and probley 1x120 WD for now.

I will piling all this on a Abit NF7-S motherboard.

Thanks in advace for the help ,

    Head

That part about the RAM should have been 2x512

I'd have thought 2x512 would be best, I don't know about the other options though :/

Crucial have a good configuration tool for this kind of problem:

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...v2.0&submit=Go

Any of the RAM on that page will work

Using 2x512 in Dual Channel mode will give you a marginal speed boost over running a single 1Gb stick. Its all a case of what you can and can't afford, if you can get the 2x512 without worry then you may as well go for it, however your only going to be missing out on a 5% boost (at best) by only getting the single stick

well its going to take me a while to get everything done. I think im going to go with a 1 gig strip so I can upgrade later on to 2x1 gig strips

It's unlikely you'll ever need a gig of ram, it's almost impossible that you'll need 2gigs of ram.

I personally think that this year will see 512mb become the reccomended/minimum RAM level for many games, as such, on all new gaming builds from this point forth i reccomend going with 1Gb of ram, that said anyone with 512mb in their box at present shouldnt rush out and upgrade just yet

PC3200, two sticks of Crucial 512MB.
    Live happily ever after.

You can disable your pagefile with 1GB of RAM, too.

Also the lowerthe number in legacy is better, right?

i think you are reffering to latency as in Cas Latency or CL. And yes 2.0 is good.

    3.0, 2.5 and 2.0.
I haven't run a benchie on my system yet that yielded different results, despite trying all three...

So, don't lose a wink over it...
