    Building this computer...parts sound ok?

I'm building a computer to do my drafting and hardcore gaming and digital editing on so tell me if this system sounds good.

    Shuttle AN35N-nForce2 400 Ultra mainboard
Athlon XP 2600+ (266fsb barton core)(only getting the barton for the overclocking)
Micron/Crucial 1GB(2x512mb) 400Mhz Dual Channel DDR memory w/ heat spreader
XFX GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128mb
    Samsung 120GB ATA133 7200rpm Hard drive
    AOpen dvd-rw drive
    Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12
    Windows XP Pro.
    21" dell trinitron monitor .24mmAG
case is all aluminum with a 450w amd approved p/s

i think it'll be a nice setup i just need some confirmation on the reliability of the brands i'm getting and if that motherboard is good for overclocking?

Very nice setup, but I'd go for the MSI K7N2 Delta-L, along with, most definitely, a Radeon9800 Pro and a Seagate Barracuda (the 7200.7 series) SATA drive

That looks fine. If you want a better nForce2 board, look at the Albatron:

More featues, better sound - for a price, naturally.

Sounds great, but it ain't gonna happen any time soon! Barton is 333MHz or 400MHz, 266MHz is T'bred\Palomino ...sorry!

i've descided to go for the albatron and the barracuda 7200 SATA drive.

now about the video card. would nvidia be better or ATI best ATI can find in my price range is a regular 128 meg radeon 9800SE. the geforce 5700FX Ultra is the best nVidia in my price range. the max i wanna spend on a video card is 175.

and about the processor i guess they put the wrong fsb speed. but which core is better? if i remember right the barton core is better.

I would go for the ATi, but it's a matter ofpersonal preference, I think ATi's newer cards handle DX9 better than nV's FX range!

as for the core thing, yes Barton is better, It has twice the L2 cache of t'bred ...but you may find that the newer ones are multiplier locked! Just make sure you're not getting palmed off with obsolete stock before you place the order!

The Barton 2500+ is all you need. I try to avoid video card debates. I still prefer nVidia cards - they seem to be easier to set up and remove.

i found a saphire Radeon 9600XT 128 for $151. is that a good card? i haven't really looked for a good fast card i recently put a radeon 7000 in my p3. it kicks WAY more *** then the savage4 did. except i miss S3TC. i've looked at benchmarks and this card is 25 dollars cheaper and it's a faster card.

Good call! It'll enable you to play the latest games at a pretty decent lick.

The 5700 Ultra you had in mind is "better"
