can u use linux and win on same network
im just wondering if u can use linux as server and win as station?
should it be better to use linux since the stations are older computers?
I thought that money didn't matter?
You can use Linux, but I seriously doubt that you are up to configuring it. It's easier to configure Win2000.
Stark Raving MOD
From a windows standpoint, you would be losing out on a lot of features that a windows server and workstation network would have. you couldn't use active directory, group policies, or anything else specific to windows networks.
I just wanted to say I have set up Samba to be a Domian controller. My Linux box operates like a Windows NT 4 PC when viewed from a windows box. It does import system policies which are similar to Group Policy except not as advanced. Even printer sharing and drive mappings work perfectly.

I agree it would be easier to configure a real windows server, but Samba is getting better all the time.
